Red Sky Foundation Paint The Town Red For ‘Wear Red Day’
The official charity partner of Sunderland and Durham City Runs, Red Sky Foundation, celebrated their annual charity ‘Wear Red Day’ in style on Friday 2nd February 2024. The fundraising and awareness day coincided with the press launch of Durham City Run’s 8th annual festival, and a crowd of charity supporters in red accompanied founder Sergio Petrucci at the launch outside the Radisson Blu Hotel, Durham.
Equipped with Red Sky posters, flags, t-shirts and flares, the enthusiastic group smiled for photographs with their mascot Miss Beats and Durham City Runs Director, Steve Cram. “We are so excited to be once again part of the Durham City Run Festival,” says Sergio. “If you want to get into running, or you just want to be part of it you can come and be a cheerleader for us or you can take part and put on one of our Red Sky vests. I know you will never ever forget the experience and you’ll be joining something spectacular.”
”I’m really pleased that Red Sky are not only part of our Sunderland event but Durham as well,” says Steve. “I’m absolutely impressed with the work Red Sky Foundation have done over the past few years, and just seem to be getting bigger.” Alongside the run launch on Friday, the Red Sky team were visiting several businesses across the North East showing their support for the charity day, including Nat West, Sainsbury’s and Holiday Inn.
Red Sky’s recent charity work in the North East includes purchasing the ‘heartbox’ manufactured by XVIVO, for the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. It is hoped that the heartbox will revolutionise how organ donations are currently transported to patients needing life-saving heart transplants. Announcing the news online, Sergio writes “Red Sky Foundation has committed to funding over £200,000 needed to bring a world first heart transplant machine to Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital to help save the lives of babies, children and adults living with heart disease waiting for a donor organ.”
This is the latest commitment Red Sky has made to support people needing cardiac care in the North East. Other vital work the charity has done includes placing defibrillators in public spaces, purchasing medical equipment for hospitals and supporting individuals facing tough journeys with heart conditions.
